Regrown in Colombia

Following the release of LionChild’s first single, “Unconditional,” in anticipation of his debut full-length album, Regrown’s founder, I was lucky enough to be flown down to Bucaramanga, Colombia to continue the work on the following 3 tracks - on which basic tracking had been completed at Regrown in NY in 2020.

LionChild and I were able to create a home for the week at Casa Navigante, run by touring guitarist and event production professional, Oscar Gómez. The studio space was a bit raw, as it is still under construction, but with enough care and hard work - as well as using the materials we had available to us in the space (a Regrown specialty) - we were able to create the perfect space for recording vocals and instruments.

I spent a majority of the week in the studio, fleshing out a myriad of post-production ideas, recording harmonies, stacking choir vocals and recording killer alto sax solos! What we were left with after four days was 3 amazing, completed songs that were mix-ready and hitting the spot! One of the greatest feelings when working on new music is when you get to the end and you know it’s great. It makes me that much more excited to mix them and get them released! But….patience!

Once we had finished the LionChild tunes, we were able to activate local musicians and have some fun recording other styles of music - cumbia, champeta and some more experimental electronic productions. I also had the pleasure of recording unique instruments for the first time, such as the indigenous instrument, the Gaita, as well as the mouth harp.

In the end, I was able to walk away with some fantastic recordings and a lot of new friends in the local music scene in Bucaramanga. There was an insane amount of talent coming in and out of that room, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to record these musicians. Keep an ear out for all of the new LionChild tunes over the course of 2021, and go listen to “Unconditional!”
